Things to Look For When Comparing Roofing Companies

things to look for when choosing a contractor

Outside of natural twins, no two people look or act exactly the same. This can also be said for businesses. Some will provide better customer service, others will offer better pricing, still others will offer one-of-a-kind products or services that set them apart from everyone else. When choosing a company to repair or replace a critical part of your home, like the roof, there are several factors to consider when making your decision.

Licensing and Insurance

Anyone working on your home (not just roofers), should be licensed, bonded and insured. What this means in short, is that they have a business license, have made payments to a surety company for protection by a bond and have adequate insurance. The insurance or surety company will then be responsible for covering any potential financial losses incurred during construction or repair of your roof. Never hire a contractor that cannot show proof of all three elements

Reviews

Look on your potential contractors website, search for them on Google™ or Facebook and you should see testimonials and/or reviews. Make sure that the reviews are heavily on the positive side. Anybody can have a bad day, and some reviewers just wake up on the wrong side of the bed, so take that into account. But as long as the majority of testimonials say that the company is reputable, honest, punctual and fair, use this to guide you in making a decision about whether or not to hire them.

Referrals

The best way to decide if a contractor is for you, is to ask your neighbors or acquaintances for a referral. When someone has used a contractor and is willing to tell you of their experience, this is a solid gauge of a company’s worth. Here at In His Hands Contractor’s Inc., Roofing Specialist, we can supply you with a list of past customers willing to share their story of working with us to help guide you in your search.

Getting What You Paid For

Often, price is our first consideration when undertaking any large project or purchase, but historically, value is what we should really evaluate. Warren Buffett said it best, “Price is what you pay; value is what you get.” Not understanding or recognizing the difference between price and value causes so many homeowners future grief when they realize they were sold a cheaper product that had no lasting value.

Apples to Apples

When comparing contractors (and the products they will use) it is important to think of the old adage “compare apples to apples”. Two shingles may look identical, but have vast quality and durability differences. Two roofing technicians may look alike, but have huge disparities in training and experience. Make sure when choosing, that you compare all similarities and dissimilarities.

Communication Is Key

Talk is cheap, but without constant and ongoing communication between the homeowner and contractor, projects can go awry quickly. At In His Hands Contractor’s Inc., Roofing Specialist, we prefer to over communicate. We explain everything that will be done before we start and communicate any updates or changes along the way, so that the homeowner never get any surprises. That’s how we operate, and why we have so many happy and satisfied customers. Give us a call at (423) 637-4265 for an inspection of your roof or any other project you may be considering.
